Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water levels are low. The crossing of Stony Brook is easy on rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. There are trees across the trail so low that they were easy step-overs or high enough above the surface to require only a slight duck to go under. There was one broken bog bridge and some rot of other planks near the Stony Brook / Carter-Moriah junction.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Saw many caterpillars on the Carter-Moriah Trail.

Comments
Comments: The ground was dry for 99.9% of the way. There were a lot of leaves on the trails, but it did not create a slippery surface. Only a few very small wet mud spots. The ledges on the Carter-Moriah Trail would be difficult when wet or icy. Today the traction on these ledges was excellent. Most of the Stony Brook Trail is easy hiking. The upper portion of this trail becomes more rocky but not overly difficult.
Had nice summit conversations with two hikers from Sunapee NH and a couple from Beverly MA. While talking with a hiker from Rochester NY on the Stony Brook Trail, a large tree fell in the woods away from the trail.
Great views of the Northern Presidential Range, Carter Range, and Mahoosuc Range from the summit. The ledges on the Carter-Moriah Trail provides good views of the Kilkenny Range and the Wild River valley.
I chose to hike Mt Moriah because it did not require driving through Fryeburg ME with the potential for traffic delays due to the Fair.
