Comments
Comments: The walk to the base of the slide is a very pleasant stroll through the woods. The slide is challenging. Between 3100-3600 feet altitude (approximately) there are several steep, smooth ledges that were wet, despite the drought, and covered were fallen leaves. Very slippery! There are obvious herd paths around these risky areas. I spent considerable time on all fours, or at least threes, working my way up. Very tiring! About half way up there is a sharp right turn not mentioned in the WMG onto a gravel traverse of about 20 yards as you come to an area where the route straight up appears blocked by fallen trees. The area around the turn was not blazed, but I believe it was the actual trail, since it rapidly came back to the obvious slide. Above 3600 feet the grade eased some.
Views were absolutely terrific today!
There are multiple signs about a problem bear at the top of Liberty Springs and continuing down to the campsite. Do not leave your pack unattended!
