Excellent hike with really good views from the two outlooks at both Summits. I hiked up and went clockwise up to Mount Hancock first and then South Hancock on the way down. The first 1.8 miles of trail leaving the parking area is fairly easy to moderate then it gets more challenging with steeper sections, but definitely hiking up to Mount Hancock the slide is very steep fortunately only for 7/10 of a mile. The hike over to South Hancock on the ridge was pleasant and some decent views again from the outlook next to South Hancock. Coming down South Hancock slide was dry, but as others have noted it's full of scree and lots of loose rocks. So definitely need to be slow and steady and poles are a big help. Really perfect conditions for today's hike all of the water crossings were easily rock hopped .The trails were dry and several sections had leaves, but that never caused any problems. The views at the outlooks at both summits are pretty spectacular on this day. I had the perfect weather day with cool clear conditions and dry. |
