Terrific morning. Wanted to avoid crowds so headed up to Fisher Mountain. A couple of the steep granite slabs I had to take sneak/cheat route - too much exposure for me. Fisher summit amazing as always.
Pondered going to Hogback as I usually do, but it's always too scrappy so decided well why not descend to the logging road again and then go through Dickey Notch. Once I descended, and I thought I was actually going in that direction but I got lured in by bootleg blue blazes and headed up what appeared to be some kind of ski trail/logging road that ended about halfway up Dickey. So, then, I was like, what do I do now? Well, woods didn't look too dense so I just kept heading up, knitting open slab to mostly open slab on and off mixed in with beautiful mossy woods until just below Dickey summit. Woods were gorgeous.
Once on Dickey, I jogged all the way down to the Dickey Notch trail (not far from Welch/Dickey parking lot), passing many many lollygagging hikers. From there, beautiful jog back through Dickey notch to car. Gorgeous day with many gorgeous ledges. Got over 2K elevation gain - yay!!! |
