Excellent conditions all around. The trail is very dry currently so the river crossing(s) are easy - we stayed to the left while ascending and only crossed Little River once, but the online maps show you could cross it 3 times, but it seems the blazes only cross once now. There were 1 or 2 very short sections with some wet rock, mostly a short section alongside the river and a small part of Twinway I believe. Plenty of leaves but they were not slippery currently. Only 1 section of notable mud and it was not bad and easily avoidable w/ rocks/roots. Up between North and South twin the trail is very narrow and you get brushed by branches constantly for a good section but we didn't get any scrapes.
The notes we saw on trail reports a week prior said due to it being dry, bring more water and don't expect to filter as some of the higher stream sections are dry currently. We did bring more than usual (and the marked higher fill spot before North Twin was indeed dry). We weren't initially committed to Galehead but we went for it and of course you can fill up at the hut there if that's part of your route. |
