 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good condition.
Daniel Webster Scout Trail had tree falls that were either high enough or low enough from the surface to permit easy passage. There were some recent tree falls cut and removed. There are some branches intruding into the path above the talus slope. These branches would soak pants when wet. Nice bright blue blazes and cairns mark the way. The tree line warning sign has yellow print on a white background. Nearly impossible to read.
Osgood Trail has more tree falls that cross the trail than I would have expected on the AT. These were a nuisance but not a hindrance. Three or four trees were about 2 feet above the surface at the best point to step over. I didn't notice a tree line warning sign on the Osgood Trail. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Not much water on these trails. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Saw many flying insects. Not bothersome. |

 | Comments: |
Almost all the surfaces are dry. This made for secure footing on the rocky surfaces.
Expect rough footing at high elevations on both the Daniel Webster Scout Trail and the Osgood Trail.
Saw no other hikers on ascent via the Daniel Webster Scout Trail and Osgood Trail until I reached the junction with the Howker Ridge Trail. Many other hikers at the summit.
Walked with another hiker from the Osgood tentsite to the Great Gulf Link. He had ascended via the Madison Gulf Trail.
There was a hazy view towards the lower elevations due to the humidity. The view up the Osgood Ridge toward Mt Madison is impressive.
The fall foliage is at or near peak. The leaves on the trail were not slippery. |
