Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were many brook crossings on this loop and all of them could be rock hopped even though water levels were up. The only exception, which I did not cross but just checked out, was Paugus Brook at the junction of Bee Line and Bolles trails. Didn't look like there was a way to keep feet dry here and water was deep.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All of these trails except for Bolles had scattered blowdowns, but nothing too crazy for wilderness routes. Whitin Brook had the largest trees down. Lawrence still has many blue pre-wilderness blazes visible. All of the water bars that I saw are full of leaves/debris. The upper relo on Lawrence from the mid-2000s is eroding as the sandy gravel washes away and fills the water bars.

Comments
Comments: A revisit to Paugus, this time from the Paugus Rd. trailhead.

As expected, the recent heavy rain has awakened the brooks and caused water to run down the trails in places. The upper ledge scrambles on Old Paugus Trail were flowing streams and I bushwhacked around the large sloping ledge to avoid this. Higher up near the summit in the flat sections there was a lot of standing water. Heading down Lawrence was more of the same -- flowing and standing water. Lower elevations were mainly drier with some areas of mud.

The view ledge on Paugus was dry due to its SW exposure and some wind. Great view of Passaconaway and friends here.

Whitin Brook had some nice cascades going that are sure to better with more rain falling as I type this.

As is normally the case in this area, I didn't see anyone else all day. Another beautiful day in the Sandwich Range Wilderness!
