Beautiful trail (lots of moss and lush green). Great views! The trail up to the Bald Peak is easy. Lots of forest floor, few rocks and roots, good footing, 3 very small brook crossings, all easy. The trail after the spur was much wetter. The roots were frozen and slippery but other than avoiding that the trail was good. Snow started as you got closer to the tent site area. Once you hit the junction of the KRT it's.3 miles to the North Kinsman summit. There are lots of slanted slabs and big boulders, and there was a thin layer of ice on them making them more difficult. Lots of snow and ice falling on me from the trees which meant there was slushy snow on the slabs on the way back. A few steeper slabs heading down North Kinsman over to South and then the rest of that stretch was very wet (standing water) but easy. Trek back was slow... lots of butt scooting down slabs and avoiding all the slippery roots after that. |
