Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked about a mile up Loop Rd, NE of Mt. Kelsey. No issue going slow in my truck, but these are very bumpy roads and not fun in the daily driver. Mid clearance should be fine though. Robichaud Brook is the road off of 26 to take in, then Conector, to Clear Stream, to Loop. You can drive very close to Dixville Peak from these roads but I don’t know how far you can drive around to Kelsey, it’s a long way.

Comments
Comments: I made a good loop of the 2 peaks starting from Loop Rd, heading SW up Kelsey. I picked this spot so it wouldn’t be a long walk back from East K at the end. It started off in horrible 5’ high logging regrowth, ready to trip you and poke your eyes. This went on for about 500 feet up. The next 600 feet up to the summit was more mature softwoods. I could see or hear the spinning windmill the entire time as my bearing. There was snow for the last 200 feet, an inch at most. Some large ice chunks luckily had fallen off the propellers already. I didn’t look for a canister, just a quick up and down to the flat top. I decided to chance a different route SE off the summit to the roads down that way. There didn’t seem to be actual roads until I got to the dirt one on the 2000’ contour. It wasn’t bad whacking down to this road, and then I walked it to Loop Rd, until south of the East peak. It was a short pleasant whack in hardwoods up to the jar, softwoods on top. Again I decided to chance a different route down and headed west for the light spot on the map, which turned out to be a marsh but it was actually dry enough to walk across carefully. There was some thick pencil woods to navigate through but also some beautiful beech forest. Once reaching the road, it was maybe a mile back to the truck and I was happy with my big loop, which took about 3.5 hours.
