 | Comments: |
Most of the route was wet, with a stretch midway of substantial mud. Snow appeared in the woods at about 3000' and with the cold overnight temperatures the trail became intermittently icy above 3500'. Nearer the summit there was more consistent shallow packed snow and ice. We wore EXOspikes to deal with the varying trail surface and they were ideal.
Life got in the way of exploiting the nice days earlier in the week so Chris and I took a chance of beating today's incoming weather and mostly succeeded. The summit was socked in and windy but it was fun to walk up into winter. How often have you climbed Pierce and not seen a soul?! |
