Comments
Comments: Lincoln Woods trail was moist in the usual places, easily avoided. Was the only one to do out/back today, passed a few folks heading to Owl and then nobody until the W. Bond Spur where I bet a few traversers and a solo guy who was doing an out/back from N. Twin Trailhead. He reported the Little River crossing was challenging and wasn't looking forward to doing it again. Snow started at 2700' and became consistent at 3000'. Some easily avoided ice, so barebooted until 1/2 way up Mt. Bond where there was an ice slab across the trail, so donned spikes for the out/back to W. Bond. Took them off at the same place after the slab on the descent. The 1-2" of snow on top of the rocks slowed the pace considerably. The bottom of Mt. Bond is a rubble field hopping rock to rock so spikes would have been non-optimal. Plan on using spikes for top half of Mt. Bond and W. Bond spur going forward as we get some freeze/thaw and additional snow. Socked in on Mt. Bond and W. Bond, but clear on Bondcliff.

Ranger station is closed for the shutdown although weather report was updated and bathrooms were clean. Chatted with a family with small children near the turnoff to Black Pond on the way out, around 3:15pm. They asked "How much farther to Black Pond, maybe a 1/4 mile?" I told them at least a mile and it would mean walking the last hour in complete darkness. They turned around.
