Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of space at 19-Mile Brook lot. Saw one interesting parking job on the road outside of Camp Dodge.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easily passable, but had it been a little cooler, the rock-tops would have been icy. As a precaution I mostly steeped on the slightly submerged rocks. Where the trail up to the ridge is its usually leafy, running mess, there was quite a bit of ice.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: N/A. I debated cutting a (very) few blowdowns, but they were all step-overable.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen
Bugs
Bugs: Coming down the warm sunny side after Zeta Pass, I did see some small flying insects. Last hurrah?
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: 1 hour of daylight lost, requiring I find my headlamp

Comments
Comments: Middle Carter and South Carter for November, numbers 476 and 477 for my 12 x 48 Grid. Six peaks, four hikes, remain for November. Started up from Joe Dodge to the Imp Trail. Slightly breezy at the start, with mostly warm sun. Started getting icy with light powdery sugar snow noted in the trees at the junction with the North Carter Trail, and just before breaking up to the ridge we put on spikes. Spikes really added confidence negotiating the flowing icy spots. Sunny and a remarkably warming 28 - 32 degrees across the two peaks, with almost zero wind. Lots of rime in the trees and about 1" - 2" of snow on the ground. I strongly recommend spikes for the Carter - Moriah ridge walk, and the top of the trails leading up. Would not recommend going without them. Realized we'd started too late for Carter Dome, also needed for November, so I'll be back for that this year or next. Continued down Carter - Moriah Trail to Zeta Pass and rushed down and out Carter Dome and 19 Mile Brook trails. Made it almost all the way to the parking lot without headlamps, squeezing out as many lumens as we could, but I gave up and pulled mine out for the last 1/8 mile out. I think we saw a total of...seven people. A good day.
