This report is filed primarily to advise that the canisters on Deer and Deer Ridge are no longer watertight at the bottom. I replaced both registers and pencils in doubled-up bags (to the person who replaced the register on Deer on 9/13, I put your page in a separate bag in the double bag, but packed out the rest of the register). It would be lovely if another intrepid Fire Tower and NH 500 Highest hiker could replace these. They have the potential to be salvaged for future use, but need to dry out completely and the bottom waterproofed, but it is uncertain how long that would last. Deer Ridge register was also packed out by another person. The canister on Round was nice and dry. |
