Comments
Comments: Love to hike but not ready to don all your winter gear? Then Potash is for you! We had a few hours after our drive up from CT today to do a quick run up one of the prettiest trails in the Sandwhich Range Wilderness, and were amazed at how hard Autumn is holding on. Zero snow or ice until the last .3 of the trail leading up to the true summit, and all ice was easily avoidable. Microspikes stayed in the bag, and it was temperate enough that I wore shorts from the base to summit and back down! Views were stunning per usual, and it was interesting to see the snow patterns:

Presidential Range: alps-level snow
Passaconoway: almost no snow
White-Face: minor snow
Carrigain: wicked snow
Tripyramids: more snow that expected to see
(North slide is a white-stripe of snow and ice)

*Of note, we ran into a couple who stated the water crossing was a bear, and had taken them almost 30 minutes to navigate. We had parked at the handy-dandy bypass lot described in Ken MacGray’s guide, so no water crossings for us!
