Comments
Comments: Rock spikes and GOOD spikes recommended. Nineteen Mile Brook Trail was wet.. very wet. Even more so after the Carter Dome Trail junction. It was so wet that it was hard to avoid stepping in the water running down the trail. Very light dusting of snow down low. Some icy spots higher up on 19MB Trail.. most of it broke underfoot but sometimes it was a lucky step of slick hard ice. I put the rock spikes on for the last section because I've already played the stubborn game and I'd prefer to stay upright these days. It's mostly for those sneaky sections of hidden ice under that beautiful coating of snow. When I got to the Wildcat Ridge Trail there were no tracks going up and just a very light dusting of snow (maybe at most just 2" of fresh powder). However there was ICE underneath this snow, and I mean thick, hard, solid ice. I was happy to have brought my actual good new spikes and immediately put them on. There was just a couple spots at the beginning where I had to step on rock or frozen dirt trail but it seemed 99% of the time I was stepping on hard ice. Really glad to have the good spikes on this final ascent. There were human and dog tracks coming from the ridge to Wildcat D (I imagine from the person who left the other report) Overall more ice than snow but really just on the final push up Wildcat Ridge Trail. Did not see anyone all day until I ran into a caretaker down low heading up.
