 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
It snowed all day but wasn’t really sticking to the roads. There was a ranger on duty I chatted with but hardly anyone else in the large lot. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Slush |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Rock hopping the big crossing was fine with current water levels. Luckily no black
ice on the rocks, but some are slightly submerged. The smaller mud pits and side streams are always a gamble but luckily I didn’t submerge my boot. I don’t know how the people in low-tops do it. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nothing I recall that needs attention. |

 | Comments: |
I was able to bareboot all day, spikes stayed in the pack, snowshoes stayed in the truck. I started at 8:45 and ended at 3:30, only saw one other person on the way to Owl’s Head and a handful on Lincoln Woods. Someone had been up before me but I may have missed them while on the slide. The slide had almost no ice, and grippy snow, Glad I wouldn’t want to go down it, so I took the Brutus bushwhack which is easy to follow, also steep, but not icy today. The water crossings went smoothly, but the trail in general is annoying and muddy. Once I got back to the flat trail I was so happy to see it I jogged the rest of the way out, must’ve looked crazy running with my snow pants and big pack. |
