Inch of snow at start of road, increasing all the way up to a total depth of about four inches at the summit. Snow was sticky in the AM ( balled up a little on bare boots)
Enough snow to cover the track however it was light and fluffy so you couldn't see the rocks/ roots underneath. Not bad footing but some surprises. The final steep climb to the summit was tricky since the snow didn't support you, the boulders were covered with a coating of ice under the snow. Again not terrible, some pitches took a second to figure out.
Of course still slippery on the way down the steeps. I found my rock spikes were a little too dull for the conditions, just had to be careful. Back down Scaur Ridge finally took spikes off since the snow was really balling, temperature seemed around 30 degrees. Most of the snow on the Livermore road had melted on the way out. |
