A nice day to car spot and traverse starting at the Ethan Pond side and ending at the Crawford Notch train station. Barebooted the whole way, although wiser hikers would probably throw on spikes.
The climb up to Willey wasn't bad, but the snow is hiding icy spots. And the ladders are missing a fair number of steps, but those are all navigated without much trouble. The trail from Willey to Field has 4-12 inches of snow and should be decently packed down after today's traffic.
The normally pleasant trip from Field to A-Z was a bit trickier than expected because 1-2" of snow was hiding the rocks, but still passable.
Going up to Tom, and most of the way down A-Z was a blast. Hard packed, fast conditions, giving a view of what will hopefully be a good winter hiking season.
Tonight's storm will probably dump a ton on this hike, so plan on hauling snowshoes. |
