Second hike of the day from this same parking spot after Bear Hill and Holts Ledge. I headed up the ski slopes, they were dry besides where they had tested out the snow guns at the base. From the top of the lift I bushwhacked in decent hardwoods along the ridge, over Winslow Ledge. Snow was an inch deep up here. I found some views further south on the ridge after signing in the jar. A hunter on Nov. 1st was the last sign in, but there were very also fresh footprints in the snow up here. I was nervous to continue on to Sugar Hill with dwindling daylight and not knowing if the trail shown on Gaia that parallels the ridge to the SW existed, but I made good time on both the bushwhack and this snowmobile trail/ roadwalk and got back just before dark, 7.2 miles for the loop in 2.5 hours, jogging the trail and road. A fine day to check off 4 more peaks for my list. Sugar Hill could use a new notebook (almost full) and Bear Hill needs a jar and Notebook (soaked). |
