Solo out and back to Jefferson from the Cog lot.
I booted about a half mile up Jewell then tossed the snowshoes on. The snow isn't very deep here, maybe 6-8", but it was soft. The trail gets tight in spots from the snow-caked trees bowed down. Higher up near treeline the snow is easily 2' deep and there are some horrible frozen postholes above treeline. There's a lot of snow up in the Presis right now, it's more like mid-winter conditions. Snowshoes are the only way to go.
Any tracks on Gulfside to Jefferson from previous days were faint and nonexistent in spots. The wind was whipping and visibility was very low most of the time, I did get maybe four or five short breaks in the clouds before socking back in. I didn't see anyone else until returning back to Clay Col where I met two hikers heading to Jefferson who hiked up the Cog. I think we were the only three to go to Jeff today, and mine were the only tracks on Jewell today. It was sleeting / snowing by the end of the hike.
