Comments: Combination of bareboot, rock spikes, and snowshoes today. Barebooted a good way at first-trail was very lightly covered in snow/ice, just a few bare patches. Rock spikes would work here too. After the Sandwich Wilderness sign where the trail goes up, it got just a bit more snowy/movable and was deceiving enough that I thought snowshoes may work (I also prefer wearing the snowshoes as opposed to carrying them.. so that affected this decision) Well immeadiately after it was way too boney in the real steep pitches before the sidehill, almost like nowhere to even fit a foot with snowshoes. Put the rock spikes on then once again switched to snowshoes just before the Scaur Ridge Trail junction. Again it wasn't totally necessary, this was a lot of wishful thinking. The snowshoes were a mix of hindrance and help. Though a lot of rock is covered up, the larger ones remain making footing awkward going up. The snow is only very slightly unconsolidated higher up and getting more firm than powdery now. Can't speak for the ridge between North and Middle, perhaps the snowshoes would be actually helpful here. Going down I switched back to rock spikes fairly soon as I felt more quick, agile, and safe coming down in them. No real crazy icy spots, mostly all snow on this right now. Saw only two people, a very familiar face who said he used snowshoes and another man who did not appear to have any sort of gear but got the job done..
