Parked at lot at the south end of Mt Clinton Rd. It was plowed, but was covered in a thin but packed layer of snow at 9am. At 2pm most of that snow had melted to bare ground. There were a few cars ahead of us on arrival. Toilets are open, and during the 9-2 time frame paper rolls were reloaded. |

Only one has a bridge, just before Crawford Connector ends at Crawford Path. |

Trail is in good shape, with no blowdowns to negotiate. |

There were perhaps a half dozen dogs, spread out over the day, all enjoying the outing, easily covering the terrain with AWD. |

Very nice day for this hike, much brighter than expected and with a fair amount of sun shining on either side of noon. The trail had a light covering of snow and ice, with some bare places, down low, with more uniform snow coverage as we ascended. By a bit below the Mizpah cutoff junction, everything was fairly well covered in snow, and all of it well packed by foot traffic. Below that junction, things were too bony for snowshoes, but above they could have been worn, yet weren't needed. Even the short stretch from the upper junction to the summit was packed, although with more loose snow from wind effects. It was nice to see how the very wet snow was pasted onto the trees, dramatically so the higher above the lower (Mizpah) junction we went. With the moderating air temperature, the upper part of our descent was punctuated by snow bombs dropping from the laden trees. There were quite a number of other hikers out there on this great day for the hike. |
