Always wanted to explore this area south/west of Goose Pond, particularly the south portion of the Bear Mountain Rd/Hebron Rd (I know, this is also a snowmo trail in winter). Really nice area - not too many muddy pits - this area is used by 4WD's in the other seasons. Really quiet. I was able to do about 4.5 miles in this nice loop. Good for running - lots of places to just run at "fast" speed - did my own turkey trot today - minus the crowds. :)
For the bushwhack, I was basically at the south end of Goose Pond and cut into the woods before going over the bridge at the outlet at the south end of Goose Pond. I headed directly south, on the east side of the brook exiting Goose Pond. The woods were pretty open - some herd paths here and there - I was easily able to jog and not get wet despite the recent rains. Eventually, the other logging road almost touches the east side of the pond south of Goose Pond. There is a nice campfire ring and I believe a large esker. That very old and substantial logging road leads down to a gate (unmarked) on the north end of a cul-de-sac - I did not come out into anyone's yard, which is what I was afraid of. |
