Trail was broken out from parking lot to the sign where the loop starts. After that, I broke the trail myself on snowshoes. Headed up towards the East Ledges. Slow going in about 6" of powdery snow. Snow depth not quite deep enough to cover all the rocks yet. Only my second time on this trail (4th time using snowshoes!) so I took my time looking for the blazes to stay on track. Legs were fatigued by the time I got to the second viewpoint, all socked in today, so I turned back. The loose snow on the rockface was a little too slippery for my liking and my experience level in these conditions.
Didn't see any other hikers, but did note that someone skied the XC loop in the time I was out. Very pleasant day out! |
