One area with two downed trees, easily to get over but numerous branches to get caught on if not careful. Or trip on if enough snow falls.

It was a beautiful day on the trail up to Fletcher Cascade. The temperature was perfect and the wind wasn't blowing. Consistent with many other trail reports there there was enough snow to make snowshoes a good idea but also bony enough that you wished you didn't have to use them! Once you get into the Sandwich wilderness then the trail gets steeper there are a few spots that made me thankful to have my mountaineering snowshoes. On the way down, those spots turned into mini butt or hip slides, as the snow was so loose that the snowshoes' traction wasn't sufficient. I can't say all of the slides were well-controlled by any of us but we all got down safely without injury! Six more inches of snow and a number of the rocks will be sufficiently covered. A perfect first snowshoe hike of the season with Tom and Brian. |
