 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Saw five high clearance pickup trucks in trailhead lot. Upper road is unplowed and has heinous trenches/holes for about 100 feet still. risk/reward not worth it just to save yourself a ten minute road walk! We parked in the lot next to Irving’s on US 2. Enjoyed some pizza slices upon return:) |

Met the famous Teal Goat at the breakfast burrito case at Yaya’s this morning-saw this as a sign that the kiddo and I were going to have a FINE day in the woods! Started walking about 7:45 and wore spikes once we hit the trail. Was thin snow cover down low. One group of three ahead of us put on their snowshoes at 3000’, as did we. Snowshoeing was solid at that point and got better and better the higher we went-lovely trench on the ridge. We caught the three ladies a minute before Waumbek summit-they continued on saying they were going for South Weeks-so should be a decent trail out to that point. We counted twelve snowshoers and thirteen microspikers today, so the trail should be packed down nicely up high. If you plan on hiking this tomorrow and don’t like snowshoes, then you can probably do just fine without them. |
