 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the NEW new trailhead, which I'm guessing is private property. The owners have done a real nice job with a clear and level lot that could fit a dozen cars easily. There is a kiosk and a lockbox for suggest donations, which IMO hikers should do, to allow continued access and show appreciation. |

 | Comments: |
The plan was to do both N & S, but I gassed out on N and if I had pushed myself we would've been coming out in the dark. Have headlamps, but I try to avoid hiking in the dark. Barefooted from the car to around 2.5 miles...snow was about 3" and chewed up from earlier hikers, but we weren't sliding around much. I opted to put my snowshoes on when I felt like it was time and snow was around 5". My partner opted for spikes and stayed in them for the rest of the day. Snow depth increased to maybe 8" up on the ridge, but trail is well broken out. Some icy spots hiding under the snow. Saw a group of 8 just below summit of North all in spikes or bare boots, so trail is chewed up pretty good. Only crossed paths with 1 other in snowshoes. Since I didn't continue to South, no comment on conditions, but my partner did and he was only in spikes. Mts need more snow and more hikers need to wear snowshoes, please and thank you. |
