Comments
Comments: The steeps are not at all icy and not horribly but slid. Snow is still not fully consolidated, but good enough to get good traction in just spikes. You could use snowshoes here but you'll be hitting rock. A couple hikers were in full crampons which is likely the most efficient choice. Between the peaks was drifty. No tracks going up the chimney and there was some blue ice forming. We chose to take the bypass up - which was not icy, and then the double bypass down - which was lightly snowshoe broken. Now's the time if you are looking to do these soon and don't want to do road walk from the Tripoli side. I almost always do these from Tripoli, but Judge Fudge said Kanc side, so Kanc side it was. Bumped into multiple friends. Spent more time and energy chatting with others than from actually hiking.
