 | Comments: |
Nineteen Mile Brook trail was in good shape up to the Carter Dome trail split. Nobody ahead of me after that and the trail had a light dusting from the night before. Near the top of the trail, before the intersection of the Wildcat Ridge trail, there was significant drifting that was up to my hip in places. Snowshoes a must at that point. Attempted to ascend Wildcat Ridge trail but the drifting was significant, that combined with the steep ascent, proved to be too much for me. I considered it a dangerous situation. The snow in places looked unstable and although there are plenty of trees in most areas some spots were open and I was concerned about the slab breaking loose and me being caught in it. Again, the drifts were up to my waist. I turned around after going about two tenths of a mile up. I met a couple on Nineteen Mile Brook trail that was also going to try and ascend Wildcat Ridge and head over to D so maybe they were more successful than I and broke it out more. |
