From the parking lot we sarted out with spikes but changed to snowshoes before the brook crossing. The trail to Potash was nicely packed, but had loose snow on top. After summitting Potash we decended off the cone and picked up the tracks for the bushwhack. Three people had made the BW to South Peak in the last few days. The tracks were well packed and easy to follow. Where the tracks fork, stay right. The fun part was having sticks tripping up our snowshoes, pushing through spruce branches that wanted to poke at our faces and having branches pull at our hats and backpacks. What fun! It never got steep and we arrived at the canister without injury. Nonetheless, it was a good day in the woods to tag a MH500 peak. |
