I guess i had forgotten why it is always best to take well traveled trails (not beaver brook for example) when winter conditions exist.
It was unseasonably warm, but a beautiful day. I broke trail to just before the junction of beaver brook & benton trails. At the point i decided i was done. The snow-pack was so high that i was fighting tree branches & a single person had decided they were going to come down this trail (juding by the single track of foot prints in the down direction). I could hardly believe how deep they had post-holed & it made breaking trail a rough task. I am not sure what will happen with the warm front that is coming in but likely thaw & refreeze. The conditions were pure powder during this less than great outing.
