the re-routed section of Ammo is a pleasant, mostly gradual trail through come nice open woods. While it does add some additional elevation Gain (and loss) the gradual grade is worth it. It was well packed out. Some ice was encountered on the upper stretches of Ammo that were easily crossed. Once above tree line, there was a combination of hardpan with areas of minor drifting while in the open with more significant drifting where the trail enters the krumholtz or in the vicinity of larger rocks. The most significant drifting was on the Crawford Path between Eisenhower and Pierce. After the rain on Friday, While we used snowshoes lot to lot, crampons will probably be the weapon of choice above treeline after the Friday rain. |
