 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We arrived at 7:15 and there was one other car. The road walk was easy peasy. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
One of the two water crossings was slightly spicy but both were doable and we came across with dry feet. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Our AMC group worked on many of the remaining blowdowns so it's looking significantly better. There are still a small handful but nowhere near as many as were initially reported after the recent storm. Thank you to those who took care of the ones before us. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
We saw an adorable one who seemed to do fine. |
|
 | Bugs: |
None. :) |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Whoever found one of our participant's sunglasses and left them on the trail sign, THANK YOU! |

It was a beautiful day! The wind felt less than forecasted and the sky was bluer than forecasted. We hiked as an AMC group of 6 and were able to bareboot it to the first water crossing, though there is a little ice hiding under a snow veneer. From the first water crossing to the junction with the Garfield Ridge Trail, light traction was plenty sufficient. It's a little bony down below but once higher up, it's a white sidewalk. In the transition from bony to sidewalk, there are short areas of water running on the trail. From the junction with the Garfield Ridge Trail, snowshoes would have made the short climb easier on that steep, previously sledded snow. It was not icy, just a little challenging. We carried snowshoes and opted not to use them here. The snow was packed, just steep, and the extra traction would have made it a little easier. We chose to gut it out and it was fine. |
