Comments
Comments: We left a car at the Owl's Head trailhead, and headed up Cherry Mountain Trail from 115 to Mt Martha to start. We were in snowshoes, two others were in spikes. They only went slightly past the Martha summit, and then returned back down Cherry Mountain Trail. Halfway up we were wondering if we needed to switch to spikes, as the snow wasn't as deep, but we loved the televators and feeling superior to others. Closer to the top, we were glad we hadn't switched, as the snow deepened, as did our love for a beautiful snowshoe track. Once on Martha's Mile, snowshoes were a must. Big drifts covered the trail, and the snow was significant and unbroken past the summit. The two ledges to Owl's Head summit were tricky, but we moved to the left for each one, had help from the trees, and made it up with some great moves. The views from each summit were amazing, and well worth the cold and wind. The glissading down Owl's Head Trail was incredibly fun. Please ignore two (maybe three) wrong moves we made on the descent, although they might make you giggle when you notice them. My hiking partner demands that you wear yer snowshoes to keep the gorgeous track, or suffer bad winter hiking luck in 2026. I say do what you must, but you'll probably be miserable in spikes. Either way, enjoy your hike!
