I was the only person on trail all day today. I chose to put my snowshoes on about a mile into the road walk. Bare boots would probably be fine until the trail head. Light traction like microspikes would be okay for the first 2
miles or so of gale river trail as there was only about an inch or two of fresh powder. After that new snow was 3-6 inches until the hut. Then, at the hut there were drifts about waist deep. From there, the spur to the summit ranged from 6 inches of powder to knee deep drifts. Hard packed trail underneath made trail conditions manageable. 13 miles round trip and hoping my round trip in snow shoes helps start off packing the trail well! |
