Microspikes to the top of the Mount Kinsman Trail, then switched to snowshoes for the entirety of the Kinsman Ridge Trail. Broke trail from North Kinsman to South Kinsman with no other visible tracks, so I was likely the only one through. Snow had a fluffy top layer with firmer snow underneath, with deeper drifts closer to the South Peak. A few spots on the KRT that are usually exposed rock were a little tricky in the snow, but manageable with careful footing. Back on the Mount Kinsman Trail, I stayed in snowshoes for about a mile (mostly because I didn’t want to stop and get cold), then switched to spikes back to the car as the trail was hard-packed the whole way down. I saw three others today (in spikes) but I believe they only traveled to North Kinsman, as I didn't run into them again between the two peaks. |
