Up Blueberry (stupid ledges, my buddies had to use a pulley system to get me up there. they did fine, why me?) Rollins was broken out well. Passed many people. Most seemed happy. Up to Passaconaway Icy on the steep part up Pass. Then we made the right and did the loop, Walden trail, around to get back to Dicey. Someone thought that would be fun. They heard it was broke out. Define fun? Define Broke out? Foot prints in 6 to 10" of snow. Top steep sections were snowy and encouraged Butt slides. The flatter sections were 1 foot step after another. I tried to stay in those. Snow shoes would have been good, But, we were not stopping to change footwear. Back on Dicey was welcome. The lower section had some blown snow, but you could see the trail. Water crossing was fine. Plenty of logs to use to cross. Overall the forecast said something about cold. 0' and -24' with windchill. My buddy and I agreed that we felt the cold, but did not feel cold, we think we dressed correctly. Only felt the cold when you took off your gloves or when the wind hit your face. If you are looking for a hike, this one is ready for you, today anyway. We did not leave the Pulley system, that would go against LNT. |
