Comments
Comments: Closed my January grid in near perfect conditions! Ours were the only human tracks from the parking lot, around the loop and back to Old Stage Rd where someone had snowshoed after we went through. Trails were stable under the snow and spikes worked great. Could bare boot but you would be slipping a lot as it is not consolidated. Snowshoes could work in many spots but would not be great in others. Amount of snow we get tonight could change that. Fresh inch or two of snow made for a great tracking day. Mouse, squirrel, hare, fox, coyote, deer, porcupine were all in abundance. Went clockwise in the loop. Rand ascending was fine and the "Hillary" step was pretty easy. Ascending West Quarry was also fine. Ice was not horrible so could go down these if going counter clockwise but we prefer climbing. Did notice in a few places the crust from other storms on the rocks would slide off in places. Descending Marsh Crossing had a couple of sketchy parts but going slow or taking another option around it worked fine.
