 | Bugs: |
Winter is the time to do these trails, IMO. Shelburne area is notorious for ticks. (Two of us once pulled off 45 ticks while hiking Crow's Nest in June. Ack!!) I saw one snow spider today. |

Shelburne Trails mop up tour. Just under 12 miles for this route:
Philbrook Farm Inn access.. Yellow Trail.. Yellow-Red Connector.. Mill Brook Road.. Scudder Trail.. John's Way.. Mt. Cabot Connector.. Judson Pond Trail.. Blue Trail.. View Loop.. Red Trail (up).. Mary's Aerie.. Red Trail (down)
Snowshoes car to car. All the trails had seen foot traffic except for Scudder up Mt. Ingalls, John's Way, and Mary's Aerie.
Solo trail breaking up Mt. Ingalls was easy, and the views from the 3 or 4 ledges are amazing. Could see the northern Presies shining in the bright sun. On the upper 2 ledges, I lost the trail for a bit but corrected on the return. If anyone happens to follow my tracks, go left (ascending) in both instances. Loved lonely little Ray's Pond.
Judson Pond Trail could use a bit of brushing. Blue and Red Trails are well marked through the logged sections. Mary's Aerie is easy to miss! Mt. Ingalls was the highlight of this hike. Highly recommended!
