Comments
Comments: We got a late start to hope the winds died down so we started finally at 9:22! We barebooted with our gortex mid runners until the crazy side hill above treeline on Jewell. This is where we put on our k-10 crampons and never took them Off again. Winds on George said 33mph when we hit treeline and I was only in my baselayer at that point, my little windshell went on for a little bit until Sphinx trail when all of the wind disappeared until the lawn! We saw Chase and crew coming down the cone and we headed up. Again still barely any wind! We met out other friends heading up the cone while we were heading off it. They were planning on a 1 peak day and we decided that George may happen now. It was a speedy descent to the col before clay and then up up and sideways walking again. Soooo much sideways walking today… my feet were not so happy. Lots of boiler plate ice heading up Washington! We hot the summit with temps as 24 with winds of 19mph. Should we have gone to Monroe? Probably but we anticipated a quick descent down the cog. What a shocker that was. Holy sketchballs! It
There were sooo many snowfields that were slanted it was sketched. So we slowly went down and even went on the left side of the cog for a little before going back over. Once we hit jacobs ladder, kissed the ground, back to baselayer and was off again. We saw the last train leave waumbek at 4pm. We techincally beat the trail down. It pulled in slowly right after we passed it again at the bottom. I used the facilities since I paid the monies.., and back at the car with no headlamps. Epic day out!
