ICE, ICE, ICE! The falling snow gave it a 1" cover but our spikes stuck well without balling up. Under the snow was mostly frozen snow pack with intermittent boiler plate. It was amazing that none of us (4 hikers) fell, over a 6.4 mile hike. Sharp Microspikes or Hillsounds are advised. We encountered two young guys on the BRT just below Gunstock, wearing trail runners with no traction and one of them fell just as they passed us. Otherwise only 2 other hikers who were on their way to Belknap. Overall a lovely hike on a snowy but not too cold day in the Belknaps. |
