Comments
Comments: I seem to have been the first snowshoer on this trail is quite some time. There was a sad, choppy bareboot track the whole way up the mountain. Down low you can probably get away with bareboot or light traction, but above the Brackett Brook crossing there is a moderately deep snowpack with a lot of unconsolidated powder over a foot deep. Once under the spruce-fir up high it is thinner and icier. I would recommend snowshoes for the duration of the hike as all rocks and roots are covered with snow and the trail needs packing from top to bottom. Don't be deceived by the somewhat thin cover down low as things quickly deepen as noted above and the barebooter before me post holed 8-10 inches frequently. Track now looks pretty good, but needs more shoes!
