 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Cut out a few leaners that were unlikely to survive. Left a bunch of others that will hopefully pop back in the spring. |

Snowshoes roundtrip. Generally about 2 to 3 feet of snowpack, but up to 6 feet up high. Trail has a fairly good footbed up to the ridge, but the summit cone was hammered with snow and drifts over the past 48 or so hours. No one had taken the Mt. Tecumseh Trail to the summit (right at the crooked sign) in recent days. The last climb was brutal - I was up to my belt in drifts with my snowshoes on. Descending the Mt. Tecumseh Trail side of the summit loop without snowshoes is reckless and could result in going in chest deep (good luck getting out of that). One of the blazes is at the snow line (and will be buried in a few hours). Sosman side of the summit is also getting deep in places, with some Microspikers postholing today. Not much recent traffic on the Sosman Trail on the way to the ski area.
Balmy -1F start at 7:30, but it didn't feel too bad because there wasn't a puff of wind. Temperatures warmed up to 6F a couple of hours later. Storm has moved in sooner than forecast, so things could get quite interesting over the next day or so. |
