Nobody had been on Gorge Brook since the weekend storm. We wore snowshoes all day (2 people) and two skiers showed up as we were setting off on the roadwalk. The skiers passed us on the road and then skinned up Gorge Brook. They broke the majority of the trail and my husband took a turn breaking also. What an amazing gift to have those skiers doing the bulk of the hard work! We REALLY appreciated it. No views from the summit today and it was a brisk wind up there with blowing snow. Definitely needed goggles and balaclava today. We tagged the summit and then headed back down Gorge Brook. The skiers continued over to Carriage Road and then skied out to their spotted car. Snowshoes or skies are the correct equipment choice. The trail is currently way too soft for spikes or bare boots. |
