Ascended via Cog Access rd as Jewell was not broken out. Steep but well packed way up. Glad to have televators! The no fall zone was significant but slow and steady works. Cut across the snowfield to Gulfside which was a mixture of drifted snow, hardpacked snow and a few icy spots. More of the same on Jefferson Loop. Coming back some switched to Hillsounds or more significant traction. That group headed for Washington and Monroe. Four of us just doing Jefferson descended Jewell as folks had come up it(thank you) band broke it out. Some post holers but enough snow shoes to keep it on pretty good shape. Would recommend snowshoes for either route up as it is still pretty unconsolidated. Weather was as cold as predicted but the winds were WAY less. Add in full sunshine and it was a pretty fantastic day above tree line! |
