Comments
Comments: On with night project. Joined by 3 young gentlemen, Tony, Graham and Phineas. 4F when we hit the trail at 7:30PM. Hiked almost entirely without headlamps the entire evening. Trail was well packed by multiple parties earlier in the day. Hiked up to the hut in snowshoes, dropped our packs and scraped up the Osgood to the summit. Two switched to spikes and two stuck with snowshoes. Wished we hadn’t, as it’s super bony. Back at the hut, we rested briefly, marveling at the dead calm wind and views into Vermont under a full moon and clear skies. You might get those conditions to align once in who knows. Spikes all around for the hike down and -9F at Appalachia when we finished. The boys were more than game . I stopped north of Concord for a 15 minute power nap, as I was getting dozy on the way back to Boston. 39 of 48. A very special evening to be up high in the winter at night.
