Spikes and snowshoes yesterday. Spikes for the road walk - road is in great condition, a nice solid track finally. It's even better after the snowmobile section. I was prepared to put my snowshoes on at the actual trailhead and found that the trail was decently packed out, but the snow was still just movable/sinkable enough to make spikes feel like a workout. Snowshoes gave me way more bite/traction. I'd say this is preferential though - you could get the job done in spikes if you'd prefer, maybe with just a few heel sinking moments. Fire Warden's and Lend-A-Hand were broken out but not wicked consolidated. Saw only one person all day on the road, coming from the hut. Hale is now gridded out, who knew February would start so hot for me! |
