Comments: Ken & I followed tracks in that veered off to the Fire Wardens trail…for the most part the trench was barely visible to the spur trail for N Twin… we decide to continue on to South Twin.. seems no one had been up here since the last snow storm… the spruce traps had spruce traps.. took us over 1.5 hours to finally get to S Twin…(we thought this would be an easier day after doing OH the previous day)..it always seemed we were on the trail according to our navigation but suddenly we would find ourselves in a trap..at 1 point we were both simultaneously up to our chests… this section Ken called the “minefield”.. we talked about the possibility of losing or breaking a snowshoe up here… it’s happened to me here and I don’t hike with snowshoes without my “camp ties” (rubber coated metal twists) which repaired 2 shoes on 1 hike….others carry paracord (BOA dials are very susceptible here).. descending S Twin; no one here for quite some time and glad to be descending this trail..2-3’ in places that would have been nearly impossible to ascend.. finally we reached the Galehead Hut intersection and found a beautifully laid track to Galehead’s summit and the descent of Gale River trail was fast…if you anticipate needing the Twins I advise going up N and descending South but be extremely careful in the “minefield” and bring a partner if you can.. good luck and stay safe!
