Snowshoes car to car for me...you could probably bareboot to the loop but while the trail is packed, it is still soft so there would be churn. Just me and 3 skiers today, they headed left down the drainage right before the climb up to N. Hancock so I was the only one to do the loop today. The snowshoes had great grip on the steep climb up to N. Hancock in 1" of fresh snow. Between the peaks there were some waist high drifts and the trail was obscured in places, you would definitely want snowshoes for this section. I tried to go down to the lookout at S. Hancock but there is a lot of deep snow. From S. Hancock down to the junction there was much more snow than the climb up to North...after a few attempts of walking, I surrendered and just butt slid down...anywhere from 4"-1' of new snow on this section. Once joining back up the trail is in great shape due to the skiers. They were behind me on the descent so the trail is likely pretty buff. |
