Comments
Comments: Nineteen Mile to the junction is packed and hard from lots of snowshoe traffic. Carter Dome trail had maybe 1/2” of blown powder on top of loose packed snow. Hillsounds all the way to Zeta Pass, easy and fast. Snowshoes become necessary thereafter, lots of drifts and many of them deep. Climb up to Hight was straightforward - steep and deep, former tracks mostly visible. Hight was beautiful but brutal cold probably 0° with maybe 35mph winds, difficult to stand up. Trail finding on Carter Moriah Trail toward Carter Dome was difficult, drifts are monsters and there’s so much it’s not always clear where the trail is. I punted about 0.2 miles from the peak due to temps, high wind, and whale drifts that were hard to navigate. Wind was filling in my tracks quickly. Went back down Carter Moriah to Zeta Pass. Protected mostly from wind but still lots of deep and varied drifts. Then back into spikes for a fast easy downclimb. I was the only one today above the first junction.
